The Gate has 3 branches in London now, all with a great atmosphere. Plenty of vegan options in a modern, and relaxed setting. The Angel branch is bigger and has a cute fire place, perfect for dates and special celebrations, or just a nice lunch spot. The decor is made out of lots of organic materials such as wood, plenty of flowers and plants can be seen throughout the restaurants, and the service is very pleasant. The menu is ever-evolving but some of my all-time favourites are the miso glazed aubergine (so rich in flavour and totally delicious), Couliflower as a side which comes with tahini dressing and some pomegranate seeds and you must try the Tortillas as a main, you can make them vegan without the goats cheese! Tortilla’s come with two fillings of sweet potato, sweetcorn, chilli, lime and coriander; and the other one was of baked beetroot, parsley, served with guacamole and black bean pepper salsa – oh wow, they were something else, but the sweet potato one was terrific. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would be back to try more dishes, as the menu is always changing. Great place to go for carnivores who are opened to trying vegetarian and vegan cuisines.

Gigi Pizzeria is a fully vegan pizzeria in the Newtown section of Sydney. For all takeaway enquiries, please call: 02 9557 2224. Newtown’s King Street is often referred to as ‘Eat Street’ by Sydneysiders, who love the sheer range of restaurants along its fine culinary stretch. That being the case, Gigi Pizzeria is responsible for delivering the traditional Italian flavours to the street. Owners and managers, Marco and Daniela Matino, opened the Pizzeria eight years ago, with a desire to bring the freshness and clarity of flavour reminiscent of Naples to the famous street of Newtown, with traditional Neapolitan woodfired pizza. Gigi is one of a very few pizzerias in Sydney that is a proud member of the AVPN (the ‘Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana’ or ‘True Neapolitan Pizza Association’) and adheres to its incredibly specific regulations, including hand-stretched dough, traditionally topped, and wood-fired pizza, Napoli style. According to Marco, the tradition of the Neapolitan wood fired pizza “is an art form which will always be relevant no matter how times change”. Marco has created a new Plant-Based menu to align with Gigi’s ethics, whilst staying true to the traditional Neapolitan Pizza by using fresh, quality local produce, combined with key ingredients imported from Italy, as specified by the AVPN, to create a perfect authentic Neapolitan pizza. In Newtown, one of Sydney’s most diverse & vibrant suburbs, you will find this little vibrant corner of Naples food culture. For seven years Gigi Pizzeria has been getting it right and this has been rewarded not only with a loyal clientele, but with its pizza featured in good food guides around the city of Sydney

The story behind Nanuchka is just as interesting as the menu. For years, the restaurant served traditional Georgian cuisine of meaty dumplings, cutlets, stews, and the like. But when owner and chef Nana Shrier became vegan in February 2014, so did her restaurant. Now it carries the proud title of ‘the first Georgian Vegan restaurant,’ where Shrier can be found frying spinach and bean cutlets instead of chicken, and stuffing traditional Georgian pastries with mushrooms instead of minced beef. One thing has remained the same though: The nostalgic décor with red walls adorned in Nana’s favorite poetry and Communist Era memorabilia.
