Established in 1892, Johan Hussong departed Forsham, Germany in 1880 and headed for New York. Johan decided that 10 years of big city were about all he cared for and proceeded a southerly direction to a sleepy fishing village called Ensenada. Johan soon became John and in May 1892 he opened a little restaurant, “John Hussong’s Agency and Diligence” Known to Southern Californians as a sort of “rite of passage,” many have made the trip 50 miles south of Tijuana to have authentic Mexican food and the best of tequila and cervezas. Except for some paint, a little neon, and of course the now famous stickers on the front window, not much has changed during the past 116 years. The modern world has only minimally caught up since 1974 when John’s name came off the façade; becoming simply “Hussong’s Cantina.” Hussong’s is famous for inventing the margarita back in October of 1941, by bartender Don Carlos.

Making people happy by offering fresh and wholesome Lebanese food. Nuba’s Lebanese style taverna in Kitsilano, is in the space formerly occupied by the legendary Greek Taverna Orestes. The walls still speak of a time of glory when woody restaurants and bars flourished in Kitsilano. Unchecked by fashion, Nuba in Kitsilano is a Lebanese taverna, like one might have visited back in the days before the civil war, somewhere along Lebanon’s stretch of Mediterranean coastline, in towns like Jounieh or Sour. The cavernous complexity of the restaurant’s interior unfolds over multiple levels through small, low-ceilinged nooks, and up and down numerous staircases. These enigmatic rooms open out around an expansive glass-covered courtyard inhabited with plants and benches. The overall effect produced by the scale and geography of the space has earned it the pet name “Nuba Village”. …. CATERING BY NUBA Throwing and Event, Party or Gathering? Nuba now does catering. Please let us know how we can bring delicious Nuba to you: http://www.nuba.ca/catering CELEBRATE AT NUBA Looking for a place to throw a party? Our Kits location is perfect for celebrations of any size. Please let us know what type of celebration you had in mind: http://www.nuba.ca/nuba-in-kitsilano

It all started in the kitchen when the Armenta family came to Utah from Guanajuato, Mexico. Mama brought with her the wonderful recipes that have been in the family for generations. A blend of secret ingredients, strict attention to freshness and quality have been the foundation of the tradition of good cooking you will find at Mi Ranchito. It was Papa, though, who had the idea to involve the whole family and create a truly special restaurant. The entire family pitched in and helped in the first Mi Ranchito when it opened in Orem, Utah back in 1983. Manuel and Senorina Armenta eventually shared the responsibility of running Mi Ranchito with their sons and daughters. Each restaurant is under the personal care of a family member, guaranteeing that the family recipes are followed very closely. Today Mi Ranchito it is still a family business; family owned, family operated and family loved. Be sure to ask for a vegan menu when you arrive!
