A super fun vegan DINER & bakery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn offering classic diner fare, pastries, desserts, muffins, pies, coffee, tea, and fun times.

Vegan ramen restaurant. Also serves salads and a few other main course options. Last order 10pm. Located inside Tokyo Station on the end of Keiyo Street, on the train side of the station, so you must be taking a train or you must buy a platform ticket. Find the food and shopping area known as Keiyo Street and you will be able to find the restaurant. T’s Tantan is located inside of Tokyo Station on Keiyo Street (yes, the station is so huge it actually has its own streets inside). Keiyo Street is near the South Yaesu Exit, so follow signs toward that exit until you see signage that says “Keiyo Street”. If you are at the far end of the station, you may have to follow signs toward the Central Yaesu Exit until signs for the South Yaesu Exit appear. As is the case for all Tokyo Station restaurants and shops, you need to enter the station with a JR Rail Pass, Suica Card, or an individual train/subway ticket. Once you find T’s Tantan, don’t worry if there’s a long line outside…turnover is quick. T’s Tan Tan offers several types of ramen, including “white” (sesame, bean sprouts, and thick green onion in a spicy broth: this one is my favorite, it really clears out your sinuses!), “green” (ramen piled high with fresh greens and includes some kabocha squash), “shoyu” (soy-sauce based broth), “red” (tomato base) and more. A bowl of ramen will set you back about 850 yen. They also have salads and curry rice, and can provide a “big helping” for a few hundred yen more. Everything is vegan, as the pictures and text on the walls proudly proclaim. One striking thing about the shop is that they seem to come from all walks of life, not just yoga-pants-wearing folks with dreadlocks or crunchy thrift store types (guilty). When I asked the manager about the clientele, he estimated that about half of them come to the restaurant specifically because they are vegetarian or otherwise healthfully-inclined. “There aren’t that many vegan restaurants in Japan, so people come from far away to eat here,” he says. But the rest are just people who just happen by during their commute, enticed by the good smells and sights coming out of the store. An English menu is available for those who want it, and the menu is illustrated so it’s easy to pick and point. The staff also speaks a little English (and some speak Taiwanese). Beer and soft drinks are available.

Taïm is the love child of husband and wife team, Chef Einat Admony and Stefan Nafziger. In 2005, homesick for the favorite street food of Tel Aviv, they heard of a tiny store front available on quiet Waverly place and decided to open their own falafel shop. Relying on her years of international cooking experience as well as her roots, Einat created a menu centered around street food with a gourmet twist. The freshness and quality of the ingredients coupled with Taïm’s spin on traditional falafel flavors give new meaning to the concept of fast food. Taïm serves falafels, hummus, smoothies, and salads.

Fill-a-Pita is a fast-casual Middle Eastern eatery, serving fresh vegetarian food. The menu is 100% vegetarian and 100% halal – mostly sandwiches in pita (Arabic) bread, salads and dips. Everything is prepared onsite daily except for our pita bread. Our wholemeal pita is sourced freshly baked every morning from a local bakery. There is no egg in any of our menu and many items can be had without garlic and onion. Our pitaria also offers koshari – a rice / macaroni and lentil dish with spicy red pepper sauce (fried onions are optional) – every Thursday and Friday. Falafel pita (served with tomato, lettuce and tahina sauce) remains our best seller. We prepare it the Lebanese / Israeli way (using chickpeas – not beans). We hope to further expand the Singapore market’s appetite for Middle Eastern / Arabic food and provide new tastes for the many vegetarians who work in the CBD and those who wish to enjoy meatless meals. Insights to our food preparation • We use Extra Virgin Olive Oil in preparing our dishes • We use Canola Oil, however, to fry our Falafels • Our Pita bread is baked daily and locally • Our food is 100% vegetarian (none of our dishes contain egg) • Our food is 100% halal (no alcohol or pork extract in anything we make) We do not charge GST nor Service charge (however, we go out of our way to provide excellent service every time). We have managed to cut down waiting time for orders during our peak hours (between 12:15 and 1:30 PM). However, we still encourage customers in a hurry to come just before Noon or after 1:45 PM. We also provide free delivery to businesses within walking distance for orders above $50. But we request that the order is put through by 10 AM latest on the same day (call 9835 1446). For very large orders, one day advance notice is appreciated. **Cash only

After winning best bakery in the city for 2014, Apiecalypse Now decided to expand and innovate! Opening in 2015, Toronto’s first vegan Pizza Shop & Snack Bar! What’s a snack bar? That’s the real beautiful part of this whole thing–it’s basically your vegan junk food dreams come alive. Vegan Corn Dogs… Vegan Doughnuts… Vegan Cheezy Garlic Bread… Buffalo Ranch Salads and Vegan Not-Chicken Caesar Salads. Our pizzas are done in an authentic pizza oven that never even one time has had meat in it. Also aren’t you tired of omnivores just sprinkling some Daiya on some crust and calling it vegan pizza? We 1) know how to make vegan cheese taste like the real thing 2) we make our own mock meat and we know how to cook it so it doesn’t taste like a mummy’s fingers 3) We understand how wholly sick you are of just eating tomato sauce and veggies. For too long Toronto has envied all those American cities with real vegan toppings and more than one vegan sauce base, and dip… remember GARLIC DIP? We do. And we got you. We have 6 kinds of dip. And you can eat all of it. Fool your friends! P00n your hockey team by making them eat vegetarian and totally not know! Maybe die at a slightly slower rate because you didn’t eat bacon today! Just come get some authentically vegan, not passably vegan pizza and stuff it in your cool beautiful faces.

The idea behind Lord of the Fries began over late night snack excursions early in 2004. Mandy (Toronto) and Mark (Melbourne) met while living in Taiwan (Tainan). Their love for fries drew them closer, and their disdain for nasty frozen chemical fries inspired them to create the perfect fry. They wanted fresh potatoes, thick but not too thick, crispy but not too crunchy, delicious and saucy, the mission began. It was the beginning of a fast food revolution. Landing in Melbourne in August, 2004, they decided to take the best fries you will ever try to the people! What better way than a mobile chip van now all they needed was a name. This is where Sam (Mark’s brother) comes sizzling into the story. Being a creative wiz, he crowned the venture LORD OF THE FRIES. The Lord was born!! The van was on the road by October and they were traveling around the country serving up golden, crunchy, fries in a cone, with home-made sauces all inspired by flavours found across the globe. The people rejoiced!
