I kept hearing how great Apiecalypse Now! pizza was, and it stood up to the hype. I got to try a couple different styles of their pizza, and one stood above the rest: the Big Mac slice. All novelty aside, it’s just a super delicious piece of pizza! The cheese sauce and sour cream are both great, the tvp is seasoned well, and the crunch from the lettuce takes it over the top. We also had the Pig Destroyer which I didn’t like as much– the seitan was great, but I wasn’t a fan of the cheese (if it wasn’t Daiya, it was Daiya-esque, and that’s just not for me).

Our group also shared some mozzarella sticks which were heeeavy on the breading, but the breading was delicious so I’m not complaining. Also on our table and eventually in our bellies was their special, a breaded and deep fried hotdog with wasabi mayo, purple cabbage, and green onion and sesame seeds on top. Super different, and very very good.

They were super busy when we went, which is always great to see at a vegan spot. At Apiecalypse Now! you order from the register, snag your seat if there is one available, and then someone brings you your food when it’s ready, so don’t let a line out the door deter you from thinking there’s a long wait for a table, because that’s not how this place works.

You won’t feel light and airy after dining at Apiecalypse, but you will get to chow down on some well-done vegan junk food and enjoy the boisterous atmosphere. When we went, it was shortly after they had opened their upstairs seating area, with a bar and a view out on Bloor St. Ventilation wasn’t great up there, but there’s a lovely park right across the street where you can enjoy your food if the seating is full, or if you can’t stand the heat!

Stepping into Apiecalypse Now instantly reminded me of another vegan pizza spot I’ve visited in Philadelphia and that made me enjoy it even more. It definitely has this DIY-feel, and it seems very inclusive and welcoming to all kinds of people. We stopped by on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed!

Our group sat in the upstairs area which had a really cozy feel. It took a while for our food to be ready but I think that’s usually to be expected for things like pizza. We got the Mozzarella Styx, Pig Destroyer Pizza, and this deep-fried hot dog with some kind of wasabi sauce that was really good. I also tried some of the Fat Mac pizza (basically a Big Mac turned into a pizza) and that was really incredible as well. We weren’t hungry enough to order any baked goods but I’d definitely like to try those in the future, along with some of their other pizza offerings!
