The concept is the brainchild of Amanda Bhalla – “My Husband and I frequently dine out and one day realised there was a niche in the market for a high quality family friendly vegetarian restaurant, the concept was born”. “We decided we wanted to open a restaurant that was not only comfortable and beautiful, we wanted great music, and we wanted the food to be delicious and authentic”. We specifically decided on creating a concept where you would share your food as this is a traditional method of eating at home, thus all our dishes are sharing plate/tapas sizes, our range of dishes compliment each other well and will enhance your dining experience. The menu for Usha’s has been designed and inspired by Usha Bhalla, my Mother-in-law, who incidentally is an amazing cook, in consultation with Sameer Sehgal: formerly of The Dorchester Hotel, London and currently the Speciality Head Chef at Armani Hotels & Resorts’ exclusive Amal Armani hotel in Dubai.

In March 2012 the Coach became London’s first and only vegetarian and vegan pub. This approach to food was introduced by the landlord Alastair Choat who had been mulling over this significant change for over a year before he finally took the plunge. ‘There are a whole host of reasons for this change’ said Alastair, ‘ But in the main it reflects my belief that we need to be more sustainable in our approach to food, more responsible with the waste we produce, more aware of the welfare of our planet and be more able to reflect on the enormity of mass farming and slaughter of animals. There are of course significant health benefits to eating a more varied vegetarian diet and reducing or cutting out meat completely. However, the Coach is not there to preach but to offer customers a whole new reason to not only go to the pub but also a different way of eating when you are there. The food is simple traditional fare which includes such favourites as Tofush and Chips (vegan), Welsh Rarebit, Beetroot Ravioli and our vegetarian pies. Our food is seasonal and freshly prepared from fresh ingredients. We will be looking to continuously evolve our menu and are looking to embrace some of the amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes that are widely available throughout Europe. Changing our pub food to vegetarian and vegan has been a great success and we have seen a whole new customer base visiting the pub on a regular basis.

Look no further if you’re looking for a place to hang out and talk light hearted conversations over seriously good food. There is nothing typical about this café; it’s a rustic downstairs hideaway that’s as individual as its owners – so expect some extraordinary menu choices. The Caffeine Drip is the brainchild of the previous owner of the Zulu Lounge on Morningside Road, Chris and his partner, Dariusz. Following a leisurely trip to Chris’s native South Africa, they decided to bring something authentic, bold and daring back to Edinburgh’s West End. The menu contains an impressive assortment that caters to every palate, including vegans. The secret to the success of this café lies in the fact that the owners have managed to capture that elusive balance of offering healthy delicacies while simultaneously appealing to the indulgent pleasure seeker.

Why are alternative, more natural methods of cure and prevention regaining popularity in modern society? For thousands of years the medicinal value of plants and food (food as medicine) has been appreciated in Far Eastern tradition. What you eat not only affects your day-to-day health but also helps to determine the quality of your life. Moreover the Itadaki-zener believes that food is closely related to human consciousness as well as human body. Itadaki means ‘to take the food life’; Zen means ‘to fix, to mend’. The primary end of the Itadaki-zen cuisine is not merely an agreeable taste, but its healing qualities. The Itadaki-zen restaurant was born from the need to provide those who are strong advocates of taking responsibility for their own health and preventing as much illness as possible with a source of food as medicine. In Itadaki-zen cuisine it is essential to eat a good balance of grains, vegetables and seaweeds. This will enable you to build a balance, healthy and slim body. Rice, root vegetables, seaweeds, soya beans and by-products, are recurrent ingredients in our cuisine because deemed to be essential for a sanitary and strong metabolism.“Slow food” characterizes the cuisine preparation, reflecting appreciation and care in the making of each dish. Anyone who ever thought that vegan meals were dull will be proved wrong by these dishes. And the restaurant desires to be a cultural place made both of sharing and personal experience with food, Art and people. Cross cultural artistic events are held periodically, such as art exhibitions and live music. Free workshops are organize regularly, focusing on food and agriculture and all the craftsmanship around it (traditional products elaboration, cuisine, etc). Let us know if you would like to participate to our free workshops or artistic events!

The Gate has 3 branches in London now, all with a great atmosphere. Plenty of vegan options in a modern, and relaxed setting. The Angel branch is bigger and has a cute fire place, perfect for dates and special celebrations, or just a nice lunch spot. The decor is made out of lots of organic materials such as wood, plenty of flowers and plants can be seen throughout the restaurants, and the service is very pleasant. The menu is ever-evolving but some of my all-time favourites are the miso glazed aubergine (so rich in flavour and totally delicious), Couliflower as a side which comes with tahini dressing and some pomegranate seeds and you must try the Tortillas as a main, you can make them vegan without the goats cheese! Tortilla’s come with two fillings of sweet potato, sweetcorn, chilli, lime and coriander; and the other one was of baked beetroot, parsley, served with guacamole and black bean pepper salsa – oh wow, they were something else, but the sweet potato one was terrific. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would be back to try more dishes, as the menu is always changing. Great place to go for carnivores who are opened to trying vegetarian and vegan cuisines.

Welcome to Lotus Vegetarian Kitchen! We are very excited to introduce to you our first Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Manchester. Lotus Vegetarian Kitchen is an independent family business and we have been in the catering industry for over 20 years. With a passion for food we moved to England from Hong Kong in the early 1980’s hoping to introduce the taste from home to more people around the world. Over the years we have opened a few successful non-vegetarian Chinese restaurants and take-ways across Manchester, however we felt that it was time to move on and pursue our new dream. My wife and I have been vegetarians for many years and we strongly believe in a healthy diet and lifestyle. Having travelled abroad to places such as Hong Kong, Canada and Taiwan, we visited many vegetarian restaurants and were inspired by the creativity of the dishes. We want to share some of our favourite home vegetarian recipes and newly created dishes to even more people in the UK, so we decided to open Lotus Vegetarian Kitchen. At our restaurant we have a no-smoking and no-drinking policy as we hope our customers enjoy our food in a comfortable, warm and relaxing atmosphere. Thank you for visiting. * All of the vegan options are clearly marked on the menu with a V *

We make the noodles, dumplings and all the other dishes ourselves from fresh ingredients with no artificial colourings or preservatives. For too long, vegetarians have been a neglected minority, struggling to find a non-vegetarian restaurant that offers a reasonable selection. Good news! Chop Chop is the answer: because Jian, our founder, used to cook for her parents as she grew up in northern China and her father was a vegetarian, no less than one third of our menu consists of wonderfully delicious vegetarian dishes. You will find below 24 dishes, many of which you will never have tasted before and are only available in our award-winning restaurant or through our city-wide delivery service. Almost all of the vegetarian options are or can be made vegan.

Cheese & Chocolate, is one of Cardiff’s newest vegan street food business. Their aim is simple, providing the best tasting cruelty free comfort food for our fellow vegans to enjoy! The idea of Cheese & Chocolate came about last year when co-founder James (a veggie at the time) stated that he’d struggle to make the jump to being vegan as he’d miss eating cheese and chocolate too much. He suggested that it’d be great if there was a place in Cardiff where he could easily get vegan substitutes for his favorite cheesy, chocolatey dishes. At that moment, the idea for Cheese & Chocolate was created. James put the idea to his girlfriend Rhiannon (A long term vegan) who was eager to join james in turning his idea into a reality. They created a repertoire of the best, tried and tested, cheesy and chocolatey recipes that will appeal to vegans, veggies and ominis alike.

Award winning Acorn vegetarian restaurant is co-owned by Richard, who is also the head chef. This sophisticated, cozy and modern restaurant is located in a quaint, cobbled street near the thermal baths in Bath. It has very pleasant and approachable staff, who are more than happy to advise you on some of their favourites! The decor is modern, yet has a lot of beautiful details such as copper detailing in the accessories, moss flower features on tables and it is a place where you can dress up and go on a date to. There are plenty of vegan options, so as vegetarian. They do not serve meat or fish. The food is very innovative, full of flavour and they stayed away from falafel sandwiches and mushroom risottos. The menu is always evolving and changing, but I think it also all depends on your taste buds. I would recommend you go for the preserved strawberries with a Prosecco sorbet on a bed of crushed hazelnuts for dessert, as it really cleans your pallet after a hearty vegan meal. It is not the cheapest, but for me, the service, atmosphere and the food worth every penny! I really enjoyed it.
