2 Reviews on “Through Being Cool Vegan Baking Co.”
Through Being Cool was at the top of my list when I knew I’d be visiting Toronto. 100% vegan, a mess of baked goods, and a pop punk namesake– what more could you want?
The space lets in a lot of natural light, with minimal seating and friendly counter-service. To the right when you walk in you’ll find some small grocery items to take home (dry goods, coffee beans) as well as some branded apparel and mugs. There are also cold-kept items to take home, like freezer cakes, mac & cheese you can bake yourself, and much more.
For eats, we got a little variety of things to share. The nanaimo bar was a Canadian must– cloyingly sweet, but that’s fiiiine by me. We also got an everything bagel with cream cheese made by a local company (Ladyship Vegan) that wasn’t like a traditional bagel, but was delicious nonetheless, and helped cut some of the sweetness of the other things we ordered. We also sampled a large, dense and tasty sprinkle sugar cookie, and a peach scone (my least favorite of the spread), along with some tea.
Through Being Cool was really great! Next time I pass through I’d love to try one of their donuts. Oh, and be advised that they only take cash or debit, and if you have a non-Canadian card, cash will be your only option.
I’ve been following Through Being Cool Vegan Bakery for a while online, so naturally I couldn’t wait to check it out for myself in-person! First of all, the storefront was a lot larger than I was expecting for some reason. It’s a cute place with a few tables for seating options, and they even sell goods here from local companies including coffee, vegan cheese, preserved goods, and more.
They had so many treats that it was really difficult to choose, but our group decided on a sugar cookie with sprinkles, Nanaimo Bar (a Canadian classic), Peach Scone, and a bagel with local company Ladyship Vegan cream cheese. My favorite was hands down the Nanaimo Bar, for its rich flavor and soft but chewy texture. I didn’t care for the scone, because it seemed really dry and not full of the peachy flavor I was expecting. The bagel was a lot softer than most bagels but the cream cheese was a really nice savory surprise among all our sweets. I would hands down come back here again!
