4 Reviews on “Candle 79”
Candle 79’s prices are a bit on the high side, but this vegan restaurant’s consistently scrumptious appetizers and entrées, great service, and warm ambiance makes this restaurant in New York’s Upper East Side a true dining pleasure for all.
Their Seitan dishes are incredibly delicious. I highly recommend both their BBQ Seitan Skewers appetizers, and their Seitan Piccata entrée. They have always been two of our favorite dishes, and they are sure to delight even the most skeptical of non-vegan guests you bring with you.
Hands down, one of the best vegan restaurants in the country. I was told the Seitan Piccata (among many dishes) was worth a try, and it was one of the best vegan dishes I have had in a long time. This place is definitely on the higher-end with prices and ambience, but it is a great place for an anniversary dinner or other celebration. Be sure to make a reservation in advance!
After hearing about Candle 79 for such a long time I was nervous that it would not live up to it’s high expectations. It definitely does. The perfect vegan dining experience.
The restaurant has a very sophisticated atmosphere that is warm and makes you feel comfortable. All the waiting staff were friendly and incredibly knowledgable about the menu and the specials available.
We started with the dumplings, seitan skewers and the special (artichoke hearts). The seitan was by far the best, with a unbelievable texture and complimented by the pomegranate barbecue sauce I would recommend this to start with.
The main course was the “main” event! The Seitan Piccata with creamed spinach, garlic-mashed potato, oyster mushrooms and a lemon caper sauce is one of my top meals ever. The seitan if possible is even better than on the skewers and with the potato and sauce made a fantastic filling and satisfying meal.
For desserts I had a chocolate-peanut butter bliss. Which, while smaller than the also great Mexican chocolate brownie, was delicious. Creamy and not too sweet it was a lovely way to finish the meal.
If you’re in New York and can afford to do so go to Candle 79
Candle 79 is an incredibly special, upscale vegan dining experience. It won’t be a cheap meal, but it will be unforgettable.
Everything I was told about Candle 79 was true, especially when it comes to the seitan. I may have overdone it with seitan at Candle 79, but I have no regrets. The texture and flavor of their seitan is like nothing I’ve experienced anywhere else. Seriously, you have to try it for yourself.
As if the starters and entrees being amazing wasn’t enough, I have just one word for you: cannoli. Wait, I have a few more words: the most amazing cannoli you’ve ever had, vegan or not. I’d make a reservation here just for that cannoli, and I don’t even remember what other delicious desserts I was lucky enough to sample because the cannoli clouds all of my memories and haunts all of my dreams. All of this is an incredibly dramatic and somewhat annoying way for me to tell you to try the cannoli when you go!
