Ming Kwan Vegetarian is delicious jay restaurant in Chiang Mai, serving plant-based vegetarian meals. Catering to Buddhist monks whose diet is almost vegan (they still eat honey), Jay restaurants are a great place to enjoy yummy vegan meals. Ming Kwan Vegetarian gives you the choice of ordering off of a menu, or selecting from one or more of several ready prepared trays of cooked food. They also offer a wide variety of soy based mock meats.

Located on Rachadamnoen Road near the Phra Singh Temple, Ming Kwan Vegetarian Restaurant was one of my favorite finds in Chiang Mai! The front of Ming Kwan is very un assuming and easy to miss (as I did a couple of times). But they are well worth the effort to find. Their table seating is basic looking, but clean and comfortable. Ming Kwan has several prepared meals you can choose from, or you can order off of their menu. All meals are extremely inexpensive. I ordered the noodle soup (shown above) off of their menu. It came with mock meat, and I choose a spring roll as a side order. Both were delicious, and the total cost for my meal was 40 Thai Baht (about $1.53 Canadian /1.07 Euro / $1.15 USD).
Ming Kwan Vegetarian Restaurant is a no frills jay style canteen in the heart of Chiang Mai’s old city.
They serve up tasty noodle soups with mushrooms, and mock meats, brown rice, and jungle dishes wrapped in banana leaves.
Everything is really tasty, and incredibly affordable. Water is offered for free, and they also sell Kombucha, and herbal drinks.
