Scotland is set to embrace a whole new world of healthy eating in 2015 with Europe’s prime vegan festival Vegfest arriving at Hall 3 of the SECC, Glasgow, on December 5th 6th. The 2 day vegan food fest is part of a brand-new Glasgow-based venture The Only Way is Ethics comprising an eight day festival exploring, promoting and celebrating ethical choices affecting all aspects of living. This joint venture is a result of months of planning and we are thrilled to be able to announce an event of this scale. We’re beyond elated to be given the opportunity to bring our vegan festival and hence the benefits of healthy eating and vegan lifestyles to Glasgow this year. We’re also privileged to be invited to organise a show at a venue as prestigious and high-profile as the SECC, and we’re very excited at the prospect of making this show a huge success. Vegfest Scotland is all about going vegan. It’s not about eating less meat, or choosing eggs over fish, or anything like that. It’s about going vegan, pure and simple. It’s a single issue campaign. Go Vegan. For the planet, for the animals, for your health, and for sustainable global food production. And it’s so easy. Vegfest Scotland will demonstrate just how easy it is to go vegan and stay vegan. The inaugural Vegfest Scotland includes a number of exciting features to get healthy eating and vegan activism high on the agenda for many. They include: – a Health Summit on the Saturday, – an Activists Summit on the Sunday, – dozens of talks on Nutrition, Health, Lifestyle and Campaigns, – in-house Levy’s Restaurant serving an all-vegan menu – plus 12 other specialist caterers, – around 120 stalls, – a Hemp Expo focusing on the industrial and medicinal benefits of hemp, – vegan information display areas, – vegan cookery demos, – kids cookery classes, – family entertainment, – live music, and more! The show website will be live for bookings from early May 2015. The Only Way is Ethics sees a number of events around Glasgow City Centre flourish in the week preceding Vegfest, and already there’s been a lot of interest from different businesses, organisations, charities, and departments looking to get involved. NB: The Only Way is Ethics is organised independently from Vegfest Scotland. Follow us on Facebook Vegfest Scotland and Twitter twitter.com/vegfestscotland

Join us as we peacefully demonstrate in solidarity with others in cities around the world for elephants and rhinos. Due to the huge demand for ivory and rhino horn, both face extinction in a decade or less. If climate change is not immediately addressed, they could face extinction due to habitat loss, conflict and increasing poverty in possibly fifty years followed by most other species. Whatever we do today echoes into the future. We must act! Let’s raise our voices demanding: 1) a global ban on all ivory and rhino horn; 2) Colorado adopts a total ban on the ivory trade; 3) Colorado adopts policies favoring the rapid development and use of renewable energy and ending policies the favor fossil fuel development; We believe a world with elephants and rhinos is much more preferable than a world without. Come march with us and with others around the world to make this so! We are looking for eager and enthusiastic individuals to take part in this peaceful march and help organize. Please contact us if this sounds like you.

The Colorado Springs Vegan & Vegetarian Group now hosts a monthly event, Vegan Drinks for a Cause, as a social opportunity for local vegans, vegetarians, and the veg-curious to get to know one another and to get to know organizations dedicated to changing the world for animals and promoting veganism. To date, we have raised $702! Held the third Thursday of the month at the Burrowing Owl (Colorado Springs’ only 100% vegan lounge serving food and drinks), we will share literature from one spotlight organization to provide our members information about the group. We will also have a donation jar on hand so that we can all make a contribution of any size to to support the work of the spotlight organization. This is a great way to meet new friends while learning about organizations doing important work on behalf of humans and animals. The Colorado Springs Vegan & Vegetarian Group’s Vegan Drinks for a Cause spotlight organization is Happy Cats Haven. Happy Cats Haven is a non-profit shelter and adoption center for homeless cats and kittens in the Pikes Peak Region. We work hard to match our cats to their perfect homes. Since 2011, we have placed over 1000 cats and kittens. We don’t stop at adoption but offer ongoing support with classes and advice. When you adopt one of our cats, you save two—the cat you adopt and the scared, homeless cat waiting on the other side of our door. Join us Thursday, October 15, 6pm – 8pm, to learn more about Happy Cats Haven while enjoying the delicious Burrowing Owl vegan fare!

NO-DIMENSIONS This is a powerful method for centering one’s energy in the hara – the area just below the navel. It is based on a Sufi technique of movements for awareness and integration of the body. Because it is a Sufi meditation, it is free and non-serious. THE INSTRUCTIONS This one-hour meditation has three stages. During the first two stages the eyes are open but not focused on anything. During the third stage the eyes are closed. The music, created especially for this meditation, begins slowly and gradually becomes faster and faster as an uplifting force. First Stage 30 minutes MOVEMENT – A continuous dance in a set of six movements. With your eyes open, begin by standing in one place and placing the left hand on the heart and the right hand on the hara. Stand still for a few moments just listening to the music to get centered. This stage of the meditation starts slowly and builds up in intensity. If you are doing this with others you may get out of synchronicity with the others and think you have made a mistake. When that happens, just stop, see where the other people are, and then get back into the same rhythm and timing as everyone else. When the bell rings, start the sequence as described below. The movements always come from the center, or hara, using the music to keep the correct rhythm. The hips and eyes face the direction of the hand movement. Use graceful movements in a continuous flow. Loud “Shoo” sounds are made from the throat in synchronicity with the sounds from the recording.Repeat this six-movement sequence continuously for 30 minutes. The sequence:1 – Touch the backs of the hands together pointing downward on the hara. Breathing in through the nose, bring the hands up to the heart and fill them with love. Breathing out make the sound “Shoo” from the throat and send love out to the world. At the same time move the right arm (with fingers extended, palm downward) and right foot straight forward, and move the left hand back down to the hara. Return to the original position with both hands on the hara.2 – Repeat this movement with the left arm and foot. Return to the original position with both hands on the hara.3 – Repeat this movement with the right arm and foot, turning sideways to the right. Return to the original position with both hands on the hara.4 – Repeat this movement with the left arm and foot, turning sideways to the left. Return to the original position with both hands on the hara.5 – Repeat this movement with the right arm and foot, turning directly behind from the right side. Return to the original position with both hands on the hara.6 – Repeat this movement with the left arm and foot, turning directly behind from the left side. Return to the original position with both hands on the hara. This stage is over when the music comes to a stop. The second stage begins with new music. Second Stage 15 minutes WHIRLING – Begin by placing the right toe over the left toe. Fold your arms across your chest and embrace yourself. Feel love for yourself. When the music starts bow down to existence for bringing you here for this meditation. When the tempo changes, begin whirling either to the left or to the right, whichever feels best for you. If you whirl to the right put the right foot and the right arm to the right and the left arm in the opposite direction. As you start to whirl you can change your hands to any position which feels good to you. If you have not whirled before then go very very slowly at first and once your mind and body get acclimated to the movements the body will naturally go faster. Do not force yourself to go too fast too soon. If you do get dizzy or it feels like it is too much for you, it is okay to stop and stand or to sit down. To end the whirling, slow down and fold the arms over the chest and heart. Third Stage 15 minutes SILENCE – Lie down on the belly with your eyes closed. Leave your legs open and not crossed to allow all the energy you have gathered to flow through you. There is nothing to do except to just be with yourself. If it is uncomfortable to lie on your belly, lie on your back. A gong will indicate the end of the meditation

adventureV Veggie YogaDays – the 1st yoga hiking event in the world exclusively for yogi-veggie hikers Firstly, the basic facts: Professional yoga sessions Guided (yoga-) hikes All coaches and guides are experienced yogis and mountain guides and also long-term vegans Feast on and savour vegetarian-vegan nutrition Companions welcome There are many yoga events – the Veggie YogaDays is unique! Must veggies make sacrifices on an activity holiday? No, not necessarily! Yoga, hiking and tasty food without meat is no contradiction. Although vegetarian and vegan food has become widespread today, travelling veggies do not always find it easy to get all that they require nutritionally. Not so on the Veggie YogaDays: uninspiring and drab dishes on the activity menu are taboo! This innovative yoga hiking event provides culinary delicacies designed to satisfy the needs of active vegetarians. Finally, an enjoyable hike without any dumb and totally unwarranted questions like “How do you get enough protein? Where does the calcium for your bones come from? And what about a lack of iron?” The Veggie YogaDays in Obernberg offer the opportunity of enjoying a wonderful and relaxed hiking weekend to all vegetarians, vegans, yogis who wish to become vegetarian or vegan and any others who want to try not eating any meat. Yogis with food intolerances and allergies are also more than welcome! The goal of the Veggie YogaDays is to provide yoga and hiking enthusiasts with an unforgettable hiking experience and gourmet weekend that is ideally suited to the wishes and requirements of vegetarians so that no culinary desires remain unsatisfied! The Veggie YogaDays is designed for yoga enthusiasts who wish to experience nature in its purest form. The Veggie YogaDays will then become an unforgettable yoga and hiking adventure! Obernberg at the foot of the Tribulaun is an ideal starting point for all of our hiking tours. There are many hiking possibilities ripe for exploration in this area of the Dolomites, from walking to the Obernbergsee (Obernberg Lake) to routes steeped in history along the Brennergrenzkammstraße (Brenner Border Ridge Road). Alpine pastures covered with gentians, crocuses and pasque flowers in spring, wonderfully soft pastures, rich with flowers in high summer and the fiery golden glow of the larches in autumn; mystical sources and sites of energy that calm the soul and bring deep relaxation. The daily yoga sessions are supervised by the experienced Jivamukti Yoga teacher “Libby Love Yoga” (indoors and outdoors). The daily yoga hiking tours are lead by Tyrolean mountain guides in small groups and adapted to the performance and comfort levels of the participants. We will stay in a freshly-renovated and beautifully designed, comfortable hotel offering half-board in either double or single rooms as required. We will not go hungry after the wonderful vegan breakfast buffet, including a snack and tea to take with us on our yoga hike, until we experience the culinary delights of our evening meal.
