ChocoMuseo is an amazing way to spend some time in Cusco. Every day they run a chocolate making workshop. We wandered into the place by chance and saw that they were doing a class in just a few minutes. We went along and asked if it was vegan friendly, which it was. One of the drinks you learn to make uses dairy milk, but they have soy milk they will switch out to for you at no additional cost or hassle. The only thing is that one of the drinks uses honey, and they have no way around that, so you are missing out on one of the drinks, but that’s it.

The class runs for about two hours and is incredibly entertaining the whole way. The host is very informative, funny, accommodating, and of course amusingly frustrated at their inept chocolate newbies. By the end of the course you come away not only enlightened, but also full of chocolate.

While you are waiting for your chocolate to set, which takes around an hour, you can explore the free chocolate museum, and of course go to the wonderful chocolate shop, which is full of all sorts of wonderful chocolate goodies, from cosmetics to t-shirts, the majority of which is all vegan. If you have done the course you have a 10% on anything in store, so it is definitely worth doing in this order.

At $20 US, this is very pricey for Cusco, but it is absolutely worth every penny. I had an amazing time here, and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. If you leave your email address you are sent your official chocolatier certificate, convenient for such times as when one has to invite folk into a world of pure imagination.

Choco Museo was definitely the highlight of my time in Cusco. The tour and workshop were a little bit more than I had expected to spend, but in the same vein they were a lot longer and a lot more fun that I had expected as well. I was taught to make my own chocolate and taught some of the indigenous language of that region of Peru at the same time. It was really informative and really really entertaining. I was also pleasantly surprised by how accommodating towards vegans the people working here were. I didn’t feel left out at any point in the workshop. The person who instructed us was amazing, funny, and very very good at what he does. A+ Choco Museo. You rock!
