1 Review on “Go Vegan”
With every new country we visit, Cody and I are always shocked and excited when we find a vegan restaurant, and it was no different when we found that El Salvador had a restaurant in it’s capital city (San Salvador) aptly named, Go Vegan.
With our arms and legs slathered in sun screen, we set out for a 6 km walk to the only vegan restaurant in the city.
We found Go Vegan quite easily and rang the doorbell to be let in. It is a small space with carved wooden fruits and veggies on the wall in the shape of a large G and V.
The menu offered a wide variety of set meals, from burgers, to panini’s, to sandwiches. Cody ordered the vegan soy burger, and I ordered the seitan panini.
My panini came with a soup, and salad, both of which were extremely bland. And unfortunately the sandwich wasn’t much better. Cody’s burger was served with rice, and a salad. The burger was flavourless, the salad wilted, and the rice was about the only thing that had some flavour.
Both of our meals were served with iced Horchata. A really flavourful drink made from either almonds, tiger nuts, or the seeds of morro; a green hard shelled fruit that resembles a coconut. It was lightly sweetened, and spiced with vanilla and cinnamon.
Horchata is very Tasty. Unfortunately it was the best part of our experience at Go Vegan.
We still recommend paying them a visit as they are the only vegan restaurant in town, and perhaps they were just having a bad day? We feel it is important to support newly opened vegan establishments; especially in countries where the word vegan is rarely uttered.
On the upside, we did bring home a yummy dark chocolate vegan spread from the shop.
