Jacobs Ridge Jacobs Ridge is a vegan animal sanctuary. It offers volunteering breaks which help toward the feed and general care of the animals. As vegans, we are keen to share with everyone the delights of eating vegan. There is no pressure on anyone but whilst you stay with us, you enjoy a vegan diet. We have never understood why anyone would want to get involved with an animal sanctuary, help the animals and then at the end of the day return to the dinner table and eat them. Breakfast is your own choice and then lunch and supper are served to everyone together, allowing time to chat and discuss the day and have an open table for topics which spread far and wide! The food is created by the Jacobs Ridge team who use a combination of their own recipes and some adaptations from the Vegan Food Pimp’s recipes. If you have a special dietary requirement, just let us know in advance and we will work with you to ensure you have the best experience whilst with u We believe that every being deserves to live a Life Without Fear. Please note that we can not accommodate for day visits. Jacob’s Ridge Story Founded in late 2011, the sanctuary was initially set up as a private, safe haven for animals. The daily running costs started to balloon as more animals joined. Private funding just wouldn’t be enough to keep all the animals in a responsible way. Over the past two and a half years Jacobs Ridge has blossomed into a fully functioning and respected animal sanctuary. We work with specialist vets, animal behaviourists, trainers, and activists (Cruelty Watch, RSPCA, Cat Protection League). The sanctuary fully committs to providing a safe haven for mistreated and unwanted animals. We will continue to grow with planned development over the coming years. Mission Statement We believe that every being has a right to live and to live life without fear. Thus, it is our mission to create a safe environment for a forever home to animals who need it. One where they don’t have to work or provide for us. One where they can just be what they are and do as they please. Jacobs Ridge is not just a sanctuary for animals, but for humans also. In connecting with the animals, nature and at the same time following a vegan lifestyle, we aim to create a space where people can find inner harmony and reconnect with themselves. We wish to further improve the lives of our rescue animals. We want to offer a permanent home to more in need by securing and expanding the site. Lastly, educate those who need it on the exploitation of animals so that more animals can live life without fear. The Volunteer Experience We want you to get the most from your stay at Jacobs Ridge. To us, that means you should never be thinking about anything else except the reason you are here. So we never want you worrying about your accommodation, your next meal, your drinks, your comfort, your transportation or simple everyday needs. At Jacobs Ridge, we cover it all. The most important thing is you have fun, connect with our animal family and take time out to just “be”. The animals get so much from you being with them. Be that in silence, reading aloud, singing or playing an instrument (they all love music), so be a part of their happy, new lease of life. https://www.jacobsridge.com/the-volunteer-experience Your Tent Following on from our first 2 years we upgraded all the tents for 2017 which are now bigger and canvas. All tents have proper beds and bedding in the style of “glamping”. Each tent is roomy and comfortable with all the little extras you would probably not expect to find when camping. We understand that at the end of the day, you want to be able to sleep in a clean, comfortable bed. As you go to sleep to the sound of nature and of course, the donkeys (as those who have been here will testify)! The Food As vegans, we are keen to share with everyone the delights of eating vegan. Located in Mission, BC, Hearts on Noses (HONs) was established in 1999 as a sanctuary for potbellied pigs. “Mini pigs” were a popular pet in the 1980s, and continue to be bred and sold as companion animals today. However, many purchasers are ill prepared or misinformed about the adult size, behaviours, and needs of potbellied pigs, and fail to carry through with a lifetime commitment. In other cases, these pigs fall into the hands of abusers where they suffer cruelty and neglect. The sanctuary now provides a home to more than 40 pigs (including potbellied pigs and full size pigs who were destined to become food), as well as one horse, one cat, two dogs, and a turtle. The sanctuary is a place where these animals have found refuge from the harsh world that sees them as little more than pieces of property. Unlike so many others, they will receive love and care for the rest of their lives. At Hearts on Noses, all animals are equal and deserving of love and respect. Please support the work that we do to rescue animals and provide them with the best care. You can also make a huge difference for animals by refusing to support their exploitation – learn about living a vegan lifestyle to save countless unseen animals from lives of misery.

Home to sheep, pigs, turkeys, a cow, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, deer, tortoises, geese, rabbits, goats, donkeys and guinea pigs, Leilani Farm Sanctuary is located on a lush 8-acre farm in Haiku, Maui. It is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization created to provide shelter and care for abused animals, and humane education to the community. Our goal is to awaken the compassion in every visitor. Connecting with disarmingly happy animals acting in ways one doesn’t expect farm animals to act, people are inspired to take the next step toward a cruelty-free lifestyle by adopting a diet free of animals. Leilani Farm Sanctuary is a paradise for animals. It’s a paradise for humans, as well! On the outer, most visible level, LFS lives and breathes upon a unique piece of rolling land, eight volcanic acres on a green Pacific island. But its superb location and jaw-dropping natural beauty are but reflections of its lush inner essence. The sanctuary is a refuge for animals, a safe haven for those fortunate enough to have found their way here. Among them are many farm animals whose cousins live dismal lives on factory farms and are routinely slaughtered by the billions to satisfy the palates of those who still choose to be meat eaters. In stark contrast, the rescued individuals at LFS, some of them looked upon by the world at large as “food animals,” are without a doubt among the most fortunate beings living on Planet Earth. The Sanctuary’s Special Programs Leilani Farm Sanctuary is an educational facility that teaches children and adults about animals in a way that changes their perspective about themselves and the world around them. Our emphasis is upon teaching that every living being needs food, water, shelter, shade, love, and has language. We host at-risk youth programs, school field trips, special needs children, elder activities, and farm tours for the general public, including visitors from the Mainland — providing our community with a hands-on experience that is thought-provoking and stimulates social and emotional growth. Most of the animals at Leilani Farm Sanctuary were orphaned, neglected, or abused. Through interaction with animals, children from troubled homes learn forgiveness, courage, strength, leadership skills, trust, empathy, and kindness. When we relay the animals’ stories to visiting children, it helps them relate to their own pain. (Often, when children are abused they turn their hurt around to abuse others, smaller than themselves.) Exploring with children how abused animals have learned to forgive and overcome their pasts, the animals become role models, helping the children deal with their pain and reach for their bright futures. You can visit Leilani Farm Sanctuary on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Read more about the tours: http://leilanifarmsanctuary.org/pdf/tours2015.pdf

An oasis of discovery and development, repose, and renewal, our Wishing Well Sanctuary is a centre for personal growth, inner peace, healing and joy. We are also a farmed animal sanctuary and therefore we can say that we truly are a sanctuary of all! This delightful retreat is just north of “Ontario’s food basket” (the Holland Marsh) near Bradford, Ontario. Just a mere 45 minutes from central Toronto. A peace pole was raised at the inaugural Wishing Well Sanctuary Open House, held in May 2012. On it are inscribed the words May Peace Prevail On Earth in Braille, English, French, Ojibway, Sanskrit, Hebrew and paw prints. We are all connected! Wishing Well Sanctuary is a charitable organization; therefore, your donations will assist in feeding and caring for the animals at the Sanctuary and also assist in providing programs to youth and their families who otherwise could not afford to attend.

Wirrimbirra Flora & Fauna Sanctuary in Bargo, NSW was established in 1963 by Thistle Stead, in memory of her husband David Stead. We are a non-profit organisation entirely run by volunteers who are dedicated to the preservation and conservation of Australia’s unique flora and fauna. We depend on the kind donations from the public to continue caring for these animals. We have marsupials like a Common Wombat, two Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Swamp Wallabies, we also have two Emus. There are a few bird aviaries that house a range of birds like Parrots, Cockatoos and two Tawny Frogmouths. Circle L Ranch Animal Rescue and Sanctuary was founded by Dr. Deborah Wilson. Her love of animals has inspired many and her committment to them is nothing short of extraordinary. Beginning with the rescue of birds, both exotic and domestic, Dr. Wilson began Feathers Foundation, then quickly expanded her idealism to include the rescue of horses, goats, sheep, cattle and of course, dogs and cats. For her, there is no such thing as an animal that is “left behind”. Circle L Ranch houses our many horses, goats, sheep, cattle, and dogs, including senior and special needs dogs. It is a loving environment where the “un-adoptable” can live out their remaining years. The one thing that we realize is that it takes a pack to save a pet!

Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a vegan 400-acre non-profit refuge for farm animals and wildlife located in Poolesville, Maryland. Founded in 1996, our mission is to offer care, rehabilitation, and permanent sanctuary for neglected, abused or abandoned farm animals, as well as providing a protected habitat for wildlife. We promote compassion and the humane treatment of all animals by educating the public on farm animal and wildlife issues. The restored colonial-era farmhouse situated on the property houses the operations of the sanctuary. Overlooking the Potomac River, and surrounded by ponds, streams, and open fields of preserved natural habitat, the sanctuary provides an idyllic setting for wildlife and farm animals. Through generous public donations, and the dedication of over 100 volunteers and 7 paid staff members, we’ve been able to not only maintain the farm and it’s acreage, but also build new barns and fences to house our growing animal family. From Petunia the pig, our first rescue, to the over 200 animals currently living at the sanctuary – your donations and support ensure their continued happiness and comfort. In addition to our scheduled special events, the sanctuary is open for tours and visits by appointment. Please call 301.428.8128 or email us to schedule a visit. Please try to be on time for your scheduled tour, and allow extra time for finding the sanctuary if this is your first time visiting. If heavy rain is forecast, we may need to reschedule. Call to check on your tour status if there is any question about the weather.
