2 Reviews on “Rise Above”
Saint Catharines feels like a tiny powerhouse of vegan friendly and fully vegan restaurants and other delights, and Rise Above was a big part of that impression for me. We stopped by on a Thursday afternoon to enjoy their lunch/dinner options, and sampled a few shared apps along with our entrees. Their sausage pizza rolls tasted like what I expected, but showed up fried like spring rolls, which I thought was a fun twist. The stuffed mushrooms were much smaller than I expected, and weren’t my favorite, but the maple garlic sauce we chose for the saucy seitan more than made up for it. So good!
For my entree, I ordered the Veggie Pot Pie. Again, this portion was smaller than I expected it to be (more like a small hand pie you’d take on the go, but it is described as “miniature” so let’s blame this on my unwillingness to read the full description), but it was served with a beautiful balsamic salad, and the crust and filling were so savory and satisfying that I really do think it was a well-portioned entree overall. And I ate every bite.
You should already be planning your Saint Catharines trip to get Beechwood Doughnuts, so why not stop for something savory ahead of time? Rise Above is super cozy, has great art on the walls, and the staff is friendly and helpful.
I didn’t know what to expect out of Rise Above, but I had a wonderful time while here! This was the first food stop after getting off the plane at Toronto Pearson International Airport and driving a little, so I was definitely ready for some food. Our group spilt a few appetizers including these excellent stuffed mushrooms, pizza rolls, and maple garlic wings. Knowing we were having donuts after this, I opted for a small bowl of their mushroom mac & cheese. This dish was good, but it reminded me a lot more of a creamy mushroom stroganoff than a traditional mac and cheese.
We were saving room for other treats for the day, but Rise Above had some delicious looking sweets while we were there including cinnamon rolls, cookies, brownies and more. The staff was super friendly and the space overall has a really nice vibe. I think it’s a great spot for grabbing some lunch during the week or brunch on Sundays. I can’t wait to come back here and support Niagara’s first and only 100% vegan restaurant and bakery!
