• As spring draws closer here in Colorado, I am starting to think about where I’ll go next. I plan to do a bike tour in the spring (somewhere in the southwest or along the west coast) and then find seasonal work for the summer. My financial situation and hatred of flying mean that I’ll be staying in the US or Canada for now. Any ideas for good…[Read more]

    • The best suggestion I have for a great way to explore the US, is to get a National Park Pass. For under $100, you get access to all the parks and some of the most specular natural sites in the world. Have a great trip!

  • I have decided to start a vegan travel podcast to share tips and stories on traveling as a vegan. It will focus on basics like accommodation, preparing food, dealing with non-vegans, etc.. Most of the existing vegan travel resources are mainly about finding vegan restaurants, but I travel on a budget. – Most of my travel has been in the US (so…[Read more]

  • Hi there! I’m originally from Boston and New York City, and recently started on a new lifestyle of working seasonal jobs in tourist destinations and then traveling in between jobs. These jobs are easy to get and as a bus driver I get paid better than most jobs. Now I’m driving buses in Breckenridge, Colorado (US) for this upcoming winter.

    • Hey there @transitgeek Welcome to the site.
My wife and I do the exact same thing. I work construction for a few months in the summer and my wife will bartend/serve during that time as well. It’s a pretty great lifestyle to have. 🙂

    • Welcome, Jeremy! From what I’ve learned in my time with VeganTravel, this work/life balance you describe seems like the perfect way to achieve a flexible travel lifestyle that works for a lot of folks! How are you enjoying Breckinridge so far? I’ve visited before in the summertime, but not being an avid skier or snowboarder, I haven’t made it…[Read more]

      • It is beautiful but so far there has not been any significant snow. I’m not really a skier, just here for the work since they have a pretty robust transit system. I will do some nordic (cross country) skiing but not going to go on the mountain because it’s way too expensive to justify. One day of downhill skiing is more than a month’s rent in many…[Read more]

        • Living in CO now, I can’t say I’m mad we haven’t seen snow yet here in the foothills this season. I think the cost is one of the reasons I’ve never tried skiing, though of all the winter activities, I think cross country skiing would be the one I’d most like to give a whirl.

          • Still not much yet but I’m not worried. It will come, and even if it doesn’t, I’ll keep hiking and biking. You’re welcome to stay here anything and/or use my XC skis or snowshoes. I’d be happy to go for a hike/ski sometime.
