Hello happy healthy friendly VEGAN TRAVEL WORLD!

Of all the vegan posts I can possibly start off with, I’m going to start with my experience in good ol’ Portland USA!
I am 100% a Chicago gal. Born and raised in the burbs of Chi.. I spent the past 6 years of my life working in downtown Chicago (& 2 of them living in Logan Square area of Chicago).. and traveling as much as I humanly can while going from job to job to save up. Artist/dancer/sales/food service/nanny ~ YOU NAME IT.

PORTLAND came into my life because I landed a brand new job as a traveling saleslady! WOW! That JUST happened~ was my reaction when I actually landed the job. And I could not believe, of all the places the company chose to send me within the first month with them, they send me to the two U.S. cities I have not yet been to but have been totally dying to go to for Vegan purposes. And Portland was naturally on the “OMGGG I have to go ASAP! I mean, they have a VEGAN MINI MALL THERE!” list.

Portland is a vegan heaven because there are just SO many options. As soon as I heard there was a PINK vegan bakery in town with the cutest name ever, “Petunia’s Pies & Pastries” I knew I had to make a stop, and INDULGE. Petunia’s is in the downtown area of Portland- plenty of street parking and easily accessible via public transit. Coming from Chicago, I was very happy to find Portland not TOO over populated. Parking was generally a breeze for me anywhere I went.

I parked around the block (didn’t have to pay the meter because there’s no payment accepted past 7PM) and rushed straight over to this sugary pink spot. And sure enough when I stepped inside it was as pink and pretty as the Instagram pics had led me to believe! I especially appreciated the employee outfits- old fashioned Petunia aprons adorned with a smile! I’m pretty sure the young lady who served me thought I was going to have a heart attack over their cheesecake selection. I told her I wanted to buy everything in the store, and I truly truly did. Yet I walked away spending $20 ~ for 3 cupcake and a slice of cheesecake. Hey, not bad! I wanted to purchase the Petunia gift attire & pink mug, but my wallet slapped me on the hand. I devoured the cheesecake inside Petunias (thoroughly enjoying the heavy hip hop playing in the background) and saved the cupcakes for later. The cupcake with the pink glitter frosting for me, and the other two for my coworkers! WHAT A TRIP! I hope y’all enjoy the photos and have a chance to check out precious Petunia’s in Portland! <3

    • I love that place!! I had the same urge to buy everything in the store!!

    • We got to try some of their treats at Vegan Beer Fest. SO delicious!!

    • Isn’t Portland the total best? Last month was my very first time in town, and with @shannon‘s help, I maximized my vegan food intake while we were there! I’d love to get to see the Petunia shop in person next time I’m in town, the snacks we tried at VBFF were incredible.

Is your home base still Chicago with the new job? I worked a combination of food service and nannying in the five years I lived there 🙂

    • Awesome post and congrats on the new job! I will be traveling to Portland in one week. This will be my first time in Portland as a vegan. I am only going to be there for a few days. Any suggestions on the spots i MUST hit? 🙂
