I saw all the negative comments toward this wonderful video on the vegan travel facebook page and I have to say how deeply disappointed I am in how the vegan community (a group of people who should come together for their cause) were rudely bashing the hard work that Margaret and Chris put into making this video just because of a few seconds of a clip with dog sledding. Being vegan is not only a dietary habit, it is a lifestyle that advocates for compassion and kindness not only for animal but for other human being (particularly our fellow vegans). If the average population (non vegans) were to see the negative comments that were posted on Marg and Chris’ video they wouldn’t view us for what we stand for as those actions were rude and arrogant. Margaret and Chris did a wonderful job showcasing vegan cuisine and the vegan lifestyle in their home town and it is so clear that they are passionate about all that the is vegan and about spreading that message to others. That quick clip of the dog sledding was innocent and I can guarantee that it was not done to offend anyone. People really need to stop being so judgemental of others. Like everything else in life, there are grey areas and I feel that dog sledding is a grey area in the vegan world, as are tattoos, horseback riding, some birth control methods, etc. Ultimately, my heart goes out for Margaret and Chris for working so hard on this video and then having to deal with all the hate that no one ever wants to experience (especially being told that they are bad vegans when this is everything that they stand for).

Marg and Chris, keep your heads up. You did a wonderful job and deserve to win this competition. Let this be a message of compassion and understanding for all the vegan and non-vegans out there… Nobody should ever be treated so badly and as most of us were taught as children… lets treat each other the way that we would like to be treated!

Great video guys!!! So impressed with all the different vegan options in Toronto. Will definitely be checking out brick works and the big carrot 🙂

  18. Christina Traynor 8 years ago

Your video was excellent! I am now so home sick for Toronto. I lived there for years (pre-vegan life….sigh), but only get back there a few times a year now. I knew about St. Lawrence Market and Kensington, but not The Big Carrot and Carrot Common on the Danforth….and I had lived just a few blocks east of there!! When I’m back in town, will certainly be checking it out. Have you ever visited the Little India neighborhood on Gerard East? Restaurants have lots of vegan options. On a side note…shout out to Sick Kids and the Pediatric ICU. My daughter received excellent care there back in 2002. She had undergone heart surgery; Today, she is 16 years old and the picture of health.

    • Margaret 8 years ago

Hey christina thanks for checking out our video! I am so glad to hear about your daughter, hearing patients do so well, is the reason why I love my job :). And I love Indian food!! I’ve been to that area of town before but gotta check it out again. Any restaurants you would recommend?
