1 Review on “Dirt Candy”
I have mixed feelings about Dirt Candy. When walking in, you are greeted with a restaurant that looks very nice and hip, and are handed with a menu that lists the items by the main vegetable used. We got a tasting menu to try a bit of everything. This included 6 dishes. I was so skeptical when the first dishes came out, one a plate of leaves with some beans on the end, and another just a small bowl of salad. I was very pleasantly surprised, they were very talented at making such simple things taste excellent. Even my vegetable-hating partner liked it! The next course was Korean fried broccoli and a foragers salad. I wasn’t very into these two dishes, but the others loved the broccoli. Next, we had a radish spaghetti and a rutabaga dish, which had some berries in it that I really didn’t enjoy at all. This course was a bit of a miss for me too. However, the next dish we had was a cauliflower curry, which was good, although a bit small, again. The last of the savory courses was definitely the best. We were served broccoli hot dogs and brussels sprout tacos. Now, only once ever have I enjoyed brussels sprouts before. These tacos, however, were so good. The tacos were lettuce leaves, served with the brussels sprouts, avocado, salsa, jalapeño, red onion, and tortilla chips. So simple, yet great.
I wouldn’t recommend Dirt Candy as a place to eat if you are just hungry or if you’re going on a first date or something, as you have to make reservations quite early and it is really expensive, but it could be a fun place to go for a special occasion. I feel like I have experienced it, and don’t feel a need to go back, but I did thoroughly enjoy the experience.
