  Ess-a-bagel is everything you want in a New York bagel shop. From the line down the avenue to the elderly man named Abe telling you that you can have anything you want just,”forget about it,” this is as New York as it gets. I loved being able to finally experience the New York bagel with loads of “cream cheese” (of which they have many flavours, though one has fish in it, so watch out!) and vegetables on. The bagel itself was also genuinely amazing. The setting isn’t exactly what I would want every day, but it is the busy diner-like atmosphere that one should expect in Manhattan. Go here and tell Abe what you want. “Don’t even worry about it, they got everything you could ever want!”

  Ess-a Bagel totally lived up to the hype! The bagels are delicious, with the right texture and excellent flavor (I got an everything bagel both times– salt is the key along with the other herbs, and Ess-a Bagel gets it right). They had several tofu cream cheese flavors to choose from, but I happily went with plain and didn’t look back. Side note: one of the tofu cream cheeses has lox in it, but if you avoid that, you should be all good.

  Both times we visited, we ended up taking our bagels to-go and ate elsewhere– I think this was the best choice since the shop itself was packed and the seating area was very cramped. But it’s clear that no one is at Ess-a Bagel for the ambience, so grab your vegan deliciousness and head out to enjoy the city with a classic NYC meal to-go!

  Ess-a-Bagel makes huge delicious bagels and several tasty tofu based cream cheeses, including a veggie-cream cheese, chive, scallion, and plain tofu cream cheese. This is an extremely popular bagel show, so it’s best to get their early. Another option is buying bagels & cream cheese seperately (in the back of the store) which is your quickest option when the line to the store gets crowded.
