1 Review on “Modern Love Brooklyn”
I did a terrible job taking photos of our food at Modern Love Brooklyn, but that’s probably because I was completely enthralled by the delicious dishes that kept appearing at the table. The restaurant isn’t huge, but the completely open floor plan makes it feel big while also somehow feeling cozy.
For starters, we ordered the Arancini (pictured), Truffled Poutine, and a Grilled Caesar. All were very good, delicious in their own ways. I think the Truffled Poutine was a bit heavy for me, but that almond ricotta was so, so good. My favorite was probably the Grilled Caesar– a whole heart of romaine, halved and grilled, and topped with the right balance of acidity from the dressing and crunch from the croutons and pepitas.
For my entree, I chose the Mac & Shews. I labored over this decision, finding it hard to choose, but I am so happy with what I got. Blackened vegetables, crisp breaded tofu, a delicious red pepper cheese sauce over pasta, and the unexpectedly wonderful addition of spiced pecans. It was comfort food alright, as the restaurant proudly proclaims, but I didn’t come away from it feeling over-full or bogged down by the oil and heaviness that usually accompanies a “comfort food” meal.
Then, dessert. We asked for some recommendations, and were told that the Chocolate Coconut Cream Pie was not to be missed. Add to that a Warm Chocolate Brownie with ice cream and Caramel Apple Pie (also pictured), and we were in business. The only change I’d make to any of these desserts is to have the apple pie served warm. Other than that, they were all excellent ways to end a great meal.
