1 Review on “Toasted - Lake Nona”
There’s a chance I built Toasted up in my head too much as I was making plans to go there, and that might be why I felt like the actual experience was a little lacking. For an omni place, I really appreciate that they seem to care a lot about providing a variety of vegan options (there was even a “vegan inside” sticker on the outside window). The vegan menu is totally separate, and it doesn’t feel like they just made some quick substitutions or omissions to their standard menu items to attempt to be more accommodating. It definitely seems like they put thought and care into the vegan menu.
All of that being said, the actual food was just okay! I ordered the Vegan Blackberry Melt because it sounded the most interesting to me. The flavors of the other ingredients were good (blackberries, portobello mushrooms and arugula on some super delicious and expertly toasted bread), but the cheese, the would-be star of the show at a grilled cheese restaurant, was just lacking in flavor. I assume they used the same cheese sauce on the Truffle Cheese Fries I ordered as a side, and I didn’t get any additional cheesy flavor from that dish, either (although the truffle and rosemary were great, and the fries themselves were done super well!).
Toasted also has vegan sandwiches and vegan salads on the menu, plus other grilled cheese varieties that might compliment the subtlety of their vegan cheese sauce (made in-house) a little better. I’d give it another shot sometime in the future, but since I often only have a limited amount of time when I’m in town, I don’t think I’d rush to budget the trip to get there instead of some of the other great vegan or vegan-friendly spots in Orlando.
