100% Plant-Based dining in Budapest, HungaryOur establishment prides itself on preparing food from purely vegetable ingredients (without any meat, eggs or dairy products). These ingredients don’t contain the smallest trace of animal protein or alcohol and thus we not only cater to vegetarians, but vegans as well.
We strive to make our dishes as healthy as possible. The majority of our ingredients were grown organically. Our daily offers always include some form of grain or cereal. We avoid using any preservatives, additives or coloring agents. Instead of using traditional wheat flour, white sugar, cocoa and bean coffee, we prefer spelt flour, cane sugar, carob and grain coffee. All of our dishes are made with purified water.

1 Review on “Napfényes Étterem”
Napfenyes Etterem and Napfenyes Etterem es Cukraszda are sister restaurants (both completely vegan) in Budapest, Hungary.
The Napfenyes Etterem es Cukraszda is the larger of the 2 restaurants. This location also has a wider variety of amazing vegan pastries to choose from. It is a little on the fine dining side with a relaxed atmosphere and no dress code. The waitstaff are extremely professional, friendly, and helpful.
These 2 phenomenal restaurants are the only vegan establishments we visited while in Budapest. The food was just too good to miss out on during our 2 days in Budapest.
Napfenyes is the stuff my vegan dreams are made of! Truly, we hit the jackpot.
I have nothing against burgers, fries, and other western food, but while we were in Europe, we wanted to try as much local home cooked cuisine as possible. Trying local food is a big part of our travels, so when we find veganized versions of old recipes, we don’t feel as if we are missing out on bits and pieces of culture.
Just a few of the dishes we tried were: the coal burners pizza. A thin crust pizza topped with cubed tofu, seitan, veggies, and violife cheese.
The spicy seitan steak on vegetable ratatouille.
WOW. This was an absolutely stellar meal. If you make it to Napfenyes, order the spicy seitan steak on vegetable ratatouille.
Seitan stuffed cabbage rolls on sour kraut, topped with sour cream.
A beautiful platter for 2. Fried violife cheese, seitan kiev, falafel balls, potatoes, rice and peas, and a vegetable filled rolled crepe. Loved it.
Cody and I also shared a slice of Napoleon cake with a scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream. Napoleon is a flaky layered dessert filled with custard, cream, and flaky pastry. The top layer is a hard sweet icing that you have to break through to get to every layer of the dessert. I don’t remember the last time I had this particular sweet, but I was thrilled that I found a vegan version.
The menu at both restaurants also include freshly squeezed fruit and veggie juices, refreshing lemonade, and coffee and teas. It is an alcohol free zone.
Both Napfenyes Etterem, and Napfenyes Etterem es Cukraszda serve traditional Hungarian food that is just phenomenal.
I am still in awe of how incredibly flavourful and authentic every meal was.
Missing it already.
*Do not miss out on all of the wonderful variety of cakes here as well*
