I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place and I couldn’t wait to check out their weekend brunch! Hogtown definitely has a diner-feel and it’s a pretty cozy place in terms of seating. While we were there, quite a few groups of people came in to dine and it was apparent that this is a popular spot on the weekends.
I went for the sweet PB & Banana French Toast which ended up having crispy, deep fried pieces of bread for the ultimate indulgent meal. I also tried some of the Unchicken & Waffles which were well-seasoned and very flavorful overall. If I come back for brunch I would be interested in ordering the vegan Omelet or maybe one of the salads. Note that their lunch and dinner menus are a little more extensive than their brunch menu, if you’re in the mood for something more savory. If you can though I would definitely try to stop by for brunch!
The Hogtown Vegan is a super cozy and sweet cafe on Bloor St. We got there shortly after they opened for brunch one weekend morning, and I was surprised to find that we were the first ones there. However, as our meal wore on, the restaurant filled up. The service was friendly and prompt, and I liked that the menu had a good amount of options, but not so many that it was hard to choose. They also happened to be playing one of my favorite albums when we walked in, so I was in great spirits the entire time.
I got the Unchicken & Waffles, and split that and the PB & Banana French Toast with a friend. Of the two, the Unchicken & Waffles was my favorite– smaller pieces of fried mock chicken that didn’t overwhelm the entire dish, and a tasty waffle to tie it all together. The french toast was definitely good, but really heavy with oil (the french toast pieces were deep fried), which I’d probably want to avoid next time.
I’d definitely recommend Hogtown Vegan to anyone traveling through Toronto!
