Cell phone coverage: I’ve recently switched over to Google fi… going to give that a try for a while and see if it works. $20 basic plan, with another $10 per GB of data… in 135 countries!

What does everyone else usually do for connecting while traveling? I used to rely on free wifi, but I found myself stressing out over not being able to get online when I needed to.

    • I know this will sound crazy…..but we have never travelled with a phone.
We have been travelling for almost 5 years now and have never used a phone once.

I really think we need to get one LOL

      • I admit sometimes it’s nice to not have the constant pressure to be connected, but I find it necessary when travelling alone (which is 95% of the time) mostly for “just in case”…

    • I started my current trek using ForbesFone .. their SIM card works in more than 120 countries, I think. It worked great but is expensive and I was burning through the data. So I then started purchasing the country specific SIMS over the last few weeks and find I like that better (using wifi whenever possible) and then having the Forbes ones as a backup. 🙂

    • It’s been working great on this trip! It takes a while to connect once you’re in a new country, and the service can be a bit spotty if you’re between cities, but it eliminates the need to get a new sim and try to figure out the best deal for each country you visit 🙂

    • Cool, that’s really good to keep in mind!! I use a Three prepaid sim, from the UK. You can load it with any plan (I tend to go with one with unlimited data), and use it is like 30 different countries, all the big ones. The plan I’m on now costs 15 pounds per month for unlimited data in any country on their feel at home list, although I believe a similar plan would cost around 25 pounds now.
